NEBRASKA STATE FIRE MARSHAL OFFICE TOLL FREE ARSON HOTLINE

The State Fire Marshal Office is proud to announce the addition of a toll free arson hotline. The number is 888-WY-ARSON (888-992-7766). As always, anyone with information on any fire, not just arson, or incident may call either the TOLL-FREE Arson Hotline, or the local Lincoln number to report this information. If an investigator is not in the office at the time of a call, the caller may leave a message on the voice mail system. Callers may remain anonymous if you wish.

CURRENTLY THERE IS A BAN ON ALL BURNING ORDERED BY THE NEBRASKA STATE FIRE MARSHALL.

DID YOU CHANGE YOUR BATTERIES

Tekamah Fire District Residents: The simple yet powerful act of changing the batteries in smoke alarms when you change the clock back on NOVEMBER 3rd can double a family's chances of getting out of home fire alive. As a 37 year fire service veteran. I have witnessed first-hand the tragedy and devastation of home fires. It's even more heartbreaking when a young life is cut short. On average nearly three children die each day in home fires. Overall, roughly 80% of home fire deaths in this country occur in homes without working smoke alarms. The peak time for home fire fatalities is between 10p.m. and 6a.m. when most families are sleeping. Smoke alarm maintenance is a simple, effective way to reduce home fire deaths. Children and senior citizens are most at risk, and a working smoke alarm can give them the extra seconds they need to get out safely.
